Template:CountryInformation Iraq is a country. It has a hot, arid climate, and is bordered by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, and the Middle East.
Country Information
IG Factbook: "Formerly part of the Ottoman Empire, Iraq was occupied by Britain during the course of World War I. In stages over the next dozen years, Iraq attained its independence as a kingdom in 1932. Territorial disputes with Iran led to an inconclusive eight-year war (1980-88) then in 1990 Iraq seized Kuwait but was expelled by US-led force during the 1991 Gulf War. Following Kuwait's liberation, the UN Security Council (UNSC) required Iraq to scrap all weapons of mass destruction and long-range missiles and to allow UN verification inspections. Continued Iraqi noncompliance with UNSC resolutions was given as the reason for the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the ousting of the brutal dictator, Saddam Hussain. The conventional war was over quickly but the gurella conflicts that followed turned the 'cake-walk' into a costly débâcle for the US. One estimate put the Iraq invasion at over a trillion dollars in cost and tens of thousands of lives lost. The state is still riven by low-level insurgency and terrorism."
Trivia
- The swords in city cam are the victory arch in Baghdad, the capital of the country.
- The banner hanging between the two swords when the country is in disorder is written using Arabic letters meaning "A cure for us" but in the wrong direction (left to right) and in the wrong form (the letters are not connected) and should be "علاج لنا".
