Cytochrome Surge is a gene available for the standard plagues, in addition to the Neurax Worm, Virus Necroa and Simian Flu DLCs. This gene increases the DNA points obtained by pressing orange DNA bubbles.

- According to the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, it is recommended to use this gene in the genetic code of the Parasite, because a large part of the DNA points are obtained through the orange DNA bubbles.[2] The GameTipCenter website also recommends using this gene for this type of disease.[3]
- This gene can be used for Nano Virus, to gain much more points for Nano Virus, because the higher cure progress it is, the more DNA bubbles will pop up.[4] As Nano Virus will surely have a higher cure progress compared to other pathogens.
- The US mobile gaming website TouchArcade recommends this gene for the Not Another Zombie Game (NAZG) achievement.[5]
