Balkan States is a rural group of countries. It has a cold, humid climate, and is bordered by Central Europe, Italy, and Turkey.
IG Factbook: "Popularly referred to as the Balkans, the Balkan Peninsula is a cultural and geographical region of Southeast Europe. The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains that stretch from the east of Serbia to the east of Bulgaria. The countries in this region are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo—Republic of Kosovo, Macedonia—Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. The regions politics have been heavily shaped in recent years by the break-up of Yugoslavia in the late 80s and 90s. Serbia and Montenegro broke up in 2006 and became independent countires while in 2008 Kosovo proclaimed independence."
